MINNI performing her song "The Garden" for UP CLOSE.
UP CLOSE explores the space between the reality of a live performance and surreality of a music video.
"The Garden" reveals a very gentle, very intimate moment in the life of two lovers. So gentle, so delicate and fresh that any kind of strong, cold wind could break them apart... The story behind "The Garden" started off with an image she had of a tree and a woman sitting underneath it. The tree is a metaphor for her lover, they are in the garden which is a metaphor for their home. That’s how it started. Then the story wrote itself from that point. The arrangement for this song changed a number of times, ranging from a solely electronic tune to now becoming a ballad. MINNI had a recording she produced at home, which has been a working version, and then she asked Otis to come and record a sax line for the outro. It took only a take or two for him to find the perfect melody. This song hasn’t had an official release yet, but is due for next year. This version played live for “Up Close” is a very gentle, very slow version of "The Garden". It reveals another deeper layer of its fragile origin.
